Hello…my name is Maurice Walker. I am a descendant of the Pidjarra Nation in Central Queensland. This is my mother’s Country and I’m connected to Punthamarra Country through my father’s Country.

I live in Canberra, on Ngunnawal Country, and have been here for a long time. I have worked in the public service for 21 years in Commonwealth and ACT Government departments.  In the Commonwealth Public Service, I worked in the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, Aboriginal Hostels Limited, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission and Department of Health and Ageing - Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. I’ve also worked with ACT Government departments for the last 18 years.

I have been involved in the Canberra region Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through the Canberra and District NAIDOC Corporation as the current Chairperson.  I am an elected member of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body, currently serving my 4th Term.  And I am a committee member of the Boomanulla Raiders Rugby League Football Club.

Recently I retired from fulltime employment and hope to share my knowledge and experience with emerging Indigenous leaders through my work with the AILC.
